Literacy Assessments

We offer a literacy assessment with our specialist assessor for younger children who are not old enough for a diagnostic assessment.

Literacy assessments are typically for children aged 8 and below, who are in Year 1 - 3 in primary school.

You may wish to consider a literacy assessment if you have concerns about your child’s progress with reading, spelling and/or writing.

The assessment takes approximately two hours at our quiet centre in Kensington Square, which explores the underlying literacy skills required for the acquisition of sound reading, writing and spelling.  Some aspects of cognitive processing (e.g. phonological awareness and working memory) are also assessed.

Within three weeks of the assessment, you will receive a detailed report which summaries the background information from home and school, a detailed analysis of each test, highlighting your child's strengths and areas for development.  You will also be provided with a series of personal recommendations for targeted learning intervention at home and at school.

Information we need before the assessment takes place

We will ask you to complete a Family Questionnaire and we will need you child's school to complete a School Questionnaire.

Family QuestionnairePlease note that we require all children to have had a sight test within the last two years before an assessment takes place.  This is to ensure that a visual issue is not the cause of any literacy difficulties.

The cost of a literacy assessment is £375.
